Dog Days of Winter

Happy Monday friends! We ended up getting snowed on this weekend (yay) and even though it was just 8 inches it made it feel more like winter around here. It’s the good kind of snow also known as Colorado’s Champagne Powder. It’s light, fluffy, easy to shovel and glorious to play in. We chiseled out time in between being sick and shoveling clients snow to hike through pine timber, up to a freshly covered, untouched lake. The air was crisp, the sun, exceptionally warm, and the knee-high snow, so very welcomed.

Styx (our dog) lives for the unleashed, wild and free days of winter, spring, summer and fall although prancing through snow and catching snow balls seem to be amongst his favorite of all season activities.  He can also be incredibly challenging to capture still as he’s constantly on the go and in the past when I line up a perfect shot of him something is usually off in my camera settings and the moments gone before I can correct. Above he was stalking me like prey giving me the opportunity to photograph his primal essence.

The light that filtered through the pine trees was absolutely magical but once we reached the lake, the sun was incredibly harsh making it less than optimal for shooting. I also wore way to many layers for how warm it was. I don’t know what I was thinking maybe that it was January in Colorado and the #1 all season rule is to dress in layers? Either way there is nothing like being outdoors, immersed in nature, under a blue sky, through fragrant pines and sugary snow.

I hope you and your pups find more time to spend outdoors this year! What did you do this weekend? Share with me below!

Thank you for joining me here and until next time..

Happy trails ♥

  6. These photos are absolutely gorgeous. And you look like you’re having so much fun. It’s too hot to take my pooch outside at the moment. 42C is scorchingly hot and I’d settle for a bit of cooling snow right now. Enjoy! Big hugs from here 🙂 xo

Yes thanks Victoria – apart from the flu which everybody’s got at the moment, the year has started brilliantly. I’ve been on a training course for the last 10 days which I finished today…. and passed – phew! I hope you’re doing brilliantly too xxx

    1. He does really well in the deep snow, sometimes I think he prefers the challenge, haha! He will always choose to frolicking through the snow over walk on pavement or even a dirt road with us, he is a character! Hope you’re having a great weekend!
