Happy Tuesday friends, trailblazers, and road runners!

Over the last 12 days my crew (husband + dog) and I have been on the road, on the beach, and in the desert. It was another amazing road trip and I collected quite the treasures to share with you all. My favorite souvenirs are (surprise, surprise) photographs and while at the start of our trip I was shocked with how little I was using my camera, I did end up taking more than a fair share of snaps. Like I’ve said here before “we miss 100% of the shots we never take”.

I have wanted to photograph the above Jenny Rose sign for many years but always passed by (quite literally) while cruising I-15 through California. Though Jenny Rose has probably stood there as long as I’ve been alive who knows how much longer she’ll be there standing tall with that glorious mountain backdrop, greeting travelers from the side of the highway so without much hesitation we stopped. And I’m absolutely thrilled with my photos of Miss Jenny Rose, they are indeed as I’ve always imagined they would be. Who else is humming “867-5309”?!

While I adore old wood structures left behind in the mountains and awe-inspiring landscapes I also have a big draw toward places that didn’t keep up with changing times. They have a certain charm that completely fascinates me. Like an old diner, a family photo album, or a great-grandparents house. There’s a lingering, familiar feeling. Maybe even a sense of home. Perhaps like seeing a VCR for us 90’s kids and essentially thinking ‘back in my day’ (p.s. I said that in the rugrats grandpa’s voice) realizing they are a blast from our past. Wonder how many folks think of the Desert Palms Motel as a blast from their past…. I’d love to hear the stories.

Aside from timeless roadside treasures I’m also a big fan of ingenuity and hustle. I appreciated this persons side business which was advertised in their driveway. It’s always eye-opening and thought-provoking to see life outside of our own realms of reality. So many ways of life and so many walks of life exist outside of the radius we are familiar with. Experiencing these differences allows us to come outside of our fixed ideas and outlines of how things “should be” or how “we should be”. It’s an opportunity to check in with what we label as our beliefs as well as our overall perspectives. This seemed to be an unintentional theme of our trip although I’ll admit I have always been drawn to the strange, odd, and extravagantly extraordinaire people and places who challenge my concrete concepts and prerequisites of life.

Instead of just passing by we ended up just stopping in and walking through many places that may have seemed rather insignificant or outdated. It was affirmed that nothing is insignificant and everything is relative. I’m intrigued more than ever by life’s Timeless Treasures.
