Field Of Dreams Crested Butte, Colorado

Summer solstice ahh! This is probably my favorite day of the year, the celebration of the summer season. Long sun soaked days, warm balmy nights, the simple sounds made by the birds and the bugs, the contrast of bluebird skies and lush green landscapes. And then here in Crested Butte there’s the bounty of glorious wildflowers. It is truly unlike anything I’ve been witness too and keeps me longing for summers return. The feeling is relative to standing underneath a waterfall of fireworks only better because the magic isn’t manmade. No one landscaped the wild, there was no miracle grow used. Just miracles growing by natures hand and natures hand alone. If that isn’t inspiration for your own garden then I’m not sure what is! We have had an early summer here in CB or really we might have just had an actual spring. I’m not quite sure. In past years we still would have had snow on the valley floors even up until late May but this year we’ve seen early blooms and devilish dust storms as a result of low precipitation. The fire danger was extreme and in fact parts of the state were ablaze but we have since been graced with rain lowering the danger from extreme to high on the Western Slope. Thank goodness! The flowers are wildly a bloom, diverse, and oh so fragrant. It’s absolutely heavenly.

These photos were taken in 2016 after a huge snow year. 350+ inches had fallen that fall/winter/spring season leaving the soil incredibly fertile. While it looks similar today the hillside is not nearly as blanketed in mules ear (sunflowers) as it was in 2016 but there’s still plenty of time to see what may unfurl! As for ourselves we’ve had nearly no time to go out exploring like we long too. Summer brings with it a lot of bus-y-ness for our small business leaving us with a maze to navigate in order to find free time. It can be frustrating and overwhelming especially when summers your jam & your jelly however…

All of this magnificent beauty is literally steps outside of our front door. Lucky is an understatement. Regardless of how busy we are I walk along this dirt road daily with our rescue pup, Styx. It would be a sin not to stop and smell the wildflowers.. especially when they’re this close.

Whatever season you’re in I hope you stop to smell the flowers or feel the crisp air caress your delicate skin. Life lives there.

Thanks for joining me here friends and until next time,

Happy Trails♥
