Taurus New Moon: Preserve The Wilderness Inside

On April 19th, the sun transitioned from passionate Aries into grounded Taurus. When someone refers to their zodiac sign they’re actually (whether they know it or not) referencing the zodiac sign the sun was in at the time of their birth. As astrologers, it is what we know as someones Sun sign.

So, happy birthday to all born under a Taurus Sun!

Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, ruled by the planet Venus, and the earth element. It is the first of the earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn).  I have written before, it is no coincidence Earth Day is celebrated during the Taurus sun cycle, and this year earth day falls on the very same day as the Taurus New Moon. A new moon initiates the beginning of a fresh new lunar cycle and it’s alignment with earth day invites us to embrace the changes happening here on earth, to take root within ourselves, and to get in synch with natures rhythm.

Taurus is the earth spirit, a true natures child. Like a tree, Taurus is stable, grounded, and deeply rooted in the sanctuary of Mother Earth.

Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, known for sudden upheaval, shocking changes, and revolution is currently stationed in earth governed Taurus, adding a lightning like feel to this usually sweet, sensual sign.

Uranus is radical, Taurus is simple.

Taurus often resists change as it threatens the very comforts that nurture the security Taurus seeks. Uranus disrupts through chaos with the intention to bring about progressive change and higher advancements to humanity as a whole. Uranus also encourages question around society’s structures and the status quo. Is business as usual working asks Uranus? What can we can integrate to have a better functioning, more sustainable future?

This lunar cycle is also making a challenging aspect to Saturn, the planet of restriction, form, and tradition. It is likely we will feel limitations and constraint around any changes we are attempting to implement. Slow and steady whispers Taurus. Pluto, planet of the underworld, goes retrograde near the time of the new moon. Pluto has been in the sign of Capricorn since 2008. And since then we’ve seen consistent shedding, destruction, rise and fall (Pluto) amongst government structures, corporations, outdated traditions, and the economy at large (Capricorn).

An on-going series of essential regeneration. The cycle of life/death/life. The destruction of one form to make room for new creation.

So while the sun, moon, and Uranus briefly quarantine together in Taurus and all other celestial bodies make their moves, there are many opportunities being supported for us collectively.

For one, slowing down drastically. Many of us may have been somewhat thrown into life at a slower pace or a different pace altogether. We have shifted into 2nd gear of the zodiac belt, Taurus’ speed is slow and steady. Summed up by Lao Tzu “Nature does not hurry yet everything is accomplished.”

Buddha was also said to be a Taurus and one of his many practices was non attachment. We are being asked to practice this ourselves in many ways like releasing our attachments to life as we’ve known it while also releasing attachment to one single idea, solution, or fix all. Taurus knows the value in honest work, not hurrying for the sake of achieving or finishing, but building something reliable, resourceful, and supportive long-term. Brick by brick, step by step we can rebuild and recreate our world, though bound to make mistakes along the way, we’re invited to be patient throughout the process.

Uranus, over the next 7 years, will encourage radical change surrounding priorities, values, finances and earth matters as it transits the sign of Taurus. Taurus suggests we begin in our own backyards, sowing seeds of abundance, growing gardens, communal and/or individual. It’s time to learn the value of being over doing, cultivate contentedness amid unknown times, compost old habits used to distract so we can harvest nutrient dense bounties that will sustain us and future generations.

We’re invited to reconsider how we use our resources and contemplate shifting into simpler ways of existing. Sit beneath a tree as Buddha did beneath the Bodhi. Listen to the birds, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, the soil on your bare-feet, the wind on your face. Nap, listen to your favorite songs over and over again, enjoy your favorite foods. Allow yourself the pleasures to preserve and stay connected to the wilderness inside.

The New Moon In Taurus is exact at 10: 26 p.m. EST. 8:26 p.m MST.
