Capricorn New Moon & Solar Eclipse: Take The Next Step

Happy New Moon in Capricorn! This time of year, the holiday season for many, can be exceptionally busy, riddled with excitement, or even overstimulating. While the sky is dark and the moon moves through its balsamic phase our energy can be lower. New moons typically pull our attention inward and call us to slow down. It’s important to honor this or whatever it is we’re feeling even in the midst of festivities.

This is the last New Moon of the decade and the beginning of a new. A new decade and a New Year! New moons are the start of a new cycle, a beginning, and the reason intention setting is often encouraged during this lunar phase. It’s a time to plant seeds, water and tend to them, and see some sort of growth or culmination by the arrival of the following full moon. This is also an ancient, indigenous farming practice.

The new moon in Capricorn brings quite a different energy than the last new moon cycle in fiery Sagittarius, though it is likely we’ve all been feeling remnants of Capricorns influence as Pluto and Saturn have been stationed there for some time. Capricorn, a cardinal sign, initiates and leads with ambition and fortitude. An energy which further illuminates the potential of this new cycle.

Sag’s fire cycle asked for radical expansion, to charge ahead in our truth while accepting the truths of others even when they fall out of alignment with our own. Capricorn invites us to walk the very path we’re advocating for.

Each cycle gives us an opportunity to prepare for the next, building off of each other, they lead us into different phases of our own growth/evolution. This particular moon is a continuation of all that we began 6 months ago under the Cancer new moon. Cancer welcomed us into summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Capricorn pushes us into the fertile darkness of winter. And just as Cancer’s cycle was magnified by the influence of solar & lunar eclipses, Capricorn season brings us back around to embrace the potency of the New Moon Solar Eclipse happening on December 25, 2019, amplifying or enhancing the intentions we set for the New Moon.

What came to the surface during Cancers wave? What was your focus or intention? Cancer encouraged us to swim in the waters of our wounds, to acknowledge the pain stored in our own bodies, ancestral & collective, and nurture it. To alchemize our pain and stand in our power.

Capricorn brings us to the basecamp of our own Mt. Everest, hands us a backpack & sternly says get to work! We must take accountability and responsibility for our own livelihood, our own well being, and own up to our shortcomings. We must get practical with ourselves, our life’s work, and how we show up in the world. This is where we roll up our sleeves and do the less glamorous grunt work that builds a sturdy foundation for our future. Use this solar eclipse in Capricorn as a grand opportunity to take the next step, leave behind what doesn't serve you, and step into this next year of your life with conviction.
